The site had uneven natural ground with poor natural drainage — a common problem in Port Harcourt. Laying turf on unprepared ground would have resulted in waterlogging and surface failure within one wet season.
We started with full civil earthworks: excavation, grading, and a properly engineered sub-base with a perforated drainage network. The drainage system was tested before the shock pad and turf were installed.
The pitch was completed to FIFA Basic specifications. Drainage performance was verified through a flood test prior to handover. The surface has performed through two full wet seasons without reported issues.
How much does FIFA-standard synthetic turf cost in Nigeria?
A full-size 11-a-side pitch with proper sub-base and drainage in Nigeria typically ranges from ₦80m to ₦150m+ depending on turf specification, site conditions, and drainage complexity.
What is the lifespan of synthetic turf in Nigeria's climate?
A properly installed FIFA-specification pitch with adequate drainage should last 8–12 years with regular maintenance. Poor sub-base or drainage will shorten this to 2–3 years.
